BRAIN FITNESS
By Elaine Lehman, Sun City Roseville Fitness Director
By using your brain and challenging it in new ways with the Brain Fitness Program, you can regain up to 10 years of mental capacity. In this program, you'll use a computer to complete memory and auditory tasks that will increase in difficulty as you improve. You will complete 40 computer sessions. The sessions will be one hour each, Monday through Friday, at 7:45 AM, beginning on February 16th for 8 weeks.
Once you are comfortable with the program, there are opportunities to complete it during afternoon open computer room hours. The fee is now reduced to $62. This is reduced by half because the Sun City Roseville Foundation will be volunteering their time to administer the program. If you complete 75% of the program sessions, you will be reimbursed $25 by the Sun City Roseville Foundation. This puts your overall potential cost at $37 for 40 sessions. That's less than a dollar per hour. A membership to the computer club is also included in the fee.
Only four residents can use this program at a time. In an effort to extend an equal opportunity for participation to all residents, we will draw names from a list of interested residents. If you'd like to put your name into the lottery, please call 774-3831 or sign-up in the Fitness Center. The lottery will close on February 9th and payment will be collected from those who were randomly selected to participate.
Health and Wellness Fair
Join us on March 1 from 9AM- 12PM in the ballroom for a chance to meet local health and wellness providers. It's free!

Pro Shop
By Mark M. Gouger, Sun City Roseville Golf Pro
Golf Lessons
As we begin the new decade, Timber Creek golf shop will turn more of its focus toward online shoppers. In November of 2009, Timber Creek jumped into the online market by opening the Timber Creek Golf Outlet on eBay, and immediately we began to see sales in used and outdated golf clubs.
Golf Maintenance
By Kent Walton, Sun City Roseville Director of Facility Operations
I am happy to report that your Maintenance Department was very busy and productive during 2009. In addition to our normal day-to-day operations, we completed several significant projects. Reductions in electrical usage were achieved due to installation of motion sensors at the Lodge and the Golf Maintenance facility. Further reductions were gained by installing parking lot lighting control, Creative Arts kiln timing control, kitchen lighting, and similar.
The Bocce Club is very happy with their newly refurbished courts. The refurbishing included replacing the wood, rubber and carpet on each court. As a part of the Fitness Center Refurbishment, we installed a UV filtration system that improves the air quality for the indoor pool area. We also installed an integrated building management system in the Fitness Center that enables us to control temperatures from the management office to reduce wasteful consumption. Eventually, we hope to expand this system to the lodge.
What is happening in 2010? We have already begun the early stages of other special projects, such as replacing the ballroom curtains and controls. In 2011 we will undertake a major refurbishment of the restaurant kitchen to improve safety, food temperature controls and energy efficiency.
Stay tuned for other exciting maintenance projects happening throughout our community.

By Dick Geistert, Director Neighborhood Watch / Citizens Patrol
Have you seen the Citizen Patrol vehicles go by? Last year we had two little white cars that look like every other little white car at night. That was last year.
By now we should have our lit signs on top of the cars. They will say "Citizens Patrol" -- Sun City Roseville. On the sides there will be our "No bad guys" logo. The sign will be positioned on the roof just behind the windshield. The patrol will plug it in each night before going out. With the lit signs the vehicles will be very easy to identify as they patrol our community.
Our residents will now have the ability to know when the patrol passes their house. Just watch for the car with the lit sign. The "bad guys" will be able to see us and stay away from Sun City.
Neighborhood Watch
Pedestrians should always use the sidewalks to be safe. We have sidewalks in Sun City. Not using them is "taking your life in your hands." Del Webb and Sun City boulevards are wide enough for 3 people to walk abreast on the sidewalk.

By Terry Boren, IT Manager, Sun City Roseville
Ransomware is type of malware that holds your files or whole system hostage until a ransom is paid. Unbelievable. While varieties of Ransomware are not many, they are out there and it pays to understand the two main types and how they operate.
Typically, Ransomware usually arrives as an attachment to an email with a innocent sounding name. When launched, it installs a program that begins encrypting your Documents folder and then tells you have to pay to download the encryption key to unlock your files. Alternatively, another type of Ransomware threatens to start deleting files unless a payment is made. The message will tell you to send a payment or buy some merchandise, or else some random file will be deleted every 30 minutes until you do.
