When You Need Help Tracing Your Relatives from a
Certain Country
Since the
Sacramento
Valley
area is so rich in
genealogy resources, it is understandable that there would be groups focusing
on a particular country, culture and/or religion. Listed below are these groups. View their website and consider paying a
visit to one of their meetings.
- Caledonia
Club – this Scottish genealogy and historical groups sponsors
the annual Scottish festival held in Woodland. It just celebrated its 139th event. In addition, there are
members of many Scottish clans who can assist you in your search for your
ancestors. The club meets at the
Trinity Church in Sacramento.

- Irish Society - this
group is just getting started so will provide more information when it
becomes available.
- Jewish
Genealogical Society of Sacramento – provides research help for people of Jewish descent. It uses a number of sources and has
speakers at its meetings. It meets
the 3rd Monday of the month, April through October, and the 3rd Sunday, January through March and Nov, Dec at 10:00 am at the Albert
Einstein Residence Center 1935 Wright St., Sacramento.

- Sacramento German Genealogy Society – is one of the largest German Genealogy
societies in the world! Its
publication Der Blumenbaum is published quarterly and read by many
doing research on their German ancestors. It has speakers at its meetings. The society meets the 4th Tuesday at 1:00 pm January
through October at the St Mark’s United Methodist Church, Lusk Dr @ St
Mark’s Way in Sacramento
In addition there are many sites that are specific to the
country, culture and/or religion that you are seeking. The best place to
find them is on the website, cyndislist.com.
The SCR Genealogy Group meets Wednesday June 6, at 1:00pm in the
COMPUTER ROOM (a change from our regular meeting room). Our own Sid Salinger will give us an in depth look at how to use GOOGLE for genealogy–related
research. Sid has had much success
locating living and deceased relatives by using the Internet, particularly
Google. Information on genealogy meetings is located in the Sun Senior News and Courier, under the Computer Club.
