One of the very helpful sites for getting genealogy nformation from cities and counties is Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness, http://www.RAOGK.com
RAOGK is a voluntary organization with over 4,000 volunteers from the entire United States. They are genealogy research advocates. They will help you find information in the city and/or county in which they live. They usually have first hand knowledge about resources in their area.
The volunteers usually state what they are willing to do, such as find obituaries, take photos of tombstones, or look up other things. In addition, many of them will give advice as to who you can contact in the area where you are searching for additional information. They are not allowed to charge for their services but can ask you to pay for copies made, postage and other costs related to obtaining the information.
Before sending a request, read the Frequently Asked Questions section.
The Computer Club has agreed to pay for Ancestry.com for one year! Ancestry is the Number One genealogy website on the Internet with all kinds of searchable data! It will be available on all club computers sometime in August. The Genealogy group will be conducting workshops on how to use it and will have monitors in the computer room at certain times to help those who want to access it. Stay tuned for more information.
If you’re interested in looking at Ancestry now and had ancestors (or yourself) in the military, you can use their new databases of military information from the Revolutionary War to World War II for FREE until June 7. Give it a try!
