Ancestry is Here!
August, 2007
Now is your chance to use the largest genealogy research website in the comfort of the Sun City Computer Room on its new computers. It has information from the entire United States as well as many areas in Europe and elsewhere. In addition, families are posting their ancestor information that you are able to look at. If you have even an inkling of interest in who your ancestors were, now is the time to use this website that has been paid for by the Computer Club but is available for all residents to use.
If you need help getting started with your family history and the use of Ancestry contact one of the members of the genealogy group – business cards are located in the computer room.
When you sign in, please check the genealogy column so that the club can keep tract of the number of residents who are using it.
Recommendation: Start tracing your family on Ancestry by finding them in the census records. Start with the 1930 census using the city and state they resided in at that time. Look at their neighbors as they may have been relatives as well.
You will be able to print out the census page(s) that they are located on. As the census pages are difficult to read when printed out, you can find a blank census sheet for 1930 when you click on the census page you are looking for. You can then copy the information you want onto it from the computer. Be sure to fill out the top of the census sheet that tells the date of the census, the township/city, state, enumeration district (ED), page number, etc. Then go to the 1920 census and do the same thing.
REMINDER: PAY THE KITTY FOR COPIES YOU PRINT IN THE COMPUTER ROOM.
The next Genealogy meeting will be held Wednesday September 5 at 1 pm in the Cedar Room. Guest speaker will be Pat Johnson, archivist, who will discuss research at SAMCC - Sacramento Archives and Museum Collection Center. This facility is one of the best keep secrets for doing family and historical research of the Sacramento area.
