SCR Genealogy Group meeting

The Genealogy group will meet Wednesday October 1 at 1 pm in the Cedar Room. Guest speaker will be Cleo Kocel who will speak on “Women During the American Revolution. Visitors are welcome.
Members – our holiday lunch will be on Tuesday December 2 in the Solarium – mark your calendars now!

Celebrate Family History Day at the California State Archives

 1020 O Street, Sacramento

 8:30 am to 4:00 pm
 
 Admission is free!
 Come for an hour or two, or stay all day.
 Look what all there is to do:
 
 1) Tour the State Archives.
 2) Research in the Root Cellar Library.
 3) Visit The California Museum for History, Women and the Arts.
 4) Attend classes in the Archives' Preservation Lab.
 5) Learn about resources at the State Archives, State Library, Sacramento
 Archives and Museum Collection Center (SAMCC), and the Sacramento Family
 History Center.
 6) Meet the genealogical, historical and lineage societies.
 7) Choose from twenty-five classes presented by top genealogy speakers from
 California statewide.

 Class topics new this year include:
 * "Treasures Found in Libraries & Historical Societies" by Glenda Lloyd
 * "Once Upon a Time: Genealogical Storytelling" by Cath Trindle
 * "Using Military Records" by Sue Roe
 * "E-books & Newspapers" by Lynn Brown
 * "California Homestead Records" by Melinda Kashuba
 * "Cussin' Cousins: An Open Forum for Frustrated Genealogists" by Linda Johnson
 * "Using Legacy Software" by Carol Byers
 
 Other topics include census, cemetery and naturalization records, maps, city
 directories, organization, NUCMUC, beginning genealogy, and more.
